Abstract
We report a rare case of goblet cell carcinoid of the vermiform appendix. A 64-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of right lower abdominal pain. She was diagnosed as having acute appendicitis, and an appendectomy was performed. However, postoperative histological investigation revealed a goblet cell carcinoid tumor (mp, ly1, v1) of the appendix with phlegmonous change in its tip. An additional ileocecal resection with lymph node dissection was preformed. No residual nidus nor lymphb node metastasis was found in the additionally resected specimen. The patient has been still asymptomatic, as of 9 months after the operation.
