Abstract
Multidisciplinary therapy, including non-curative hepatic resection, transcatheter arterial chemoem-bilization (TACE) and percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT), was effective in a case of advanced hepatocellular cacinoma (HCC) with cirrhosis.
A 60-year-old male was admitted to our hospital, because of multiple liver tumors (4 tumors in the lateral, medial, and anterior segments) on CT scan.
Curative hepatic resection seemed difficult because of poor liver function. The tumor in the lateral segment, that was later proved to be HCC by needle biopsy, was hypovascular, and the others were hypervascular on angiography. Non-curative lateral segmentectomy was carried out, because TACE was considered to be minimally effective for the tumor of the lateral segment.
Repeated TACE (10 times) and PEIT (5 times) were performed every 3 months after the operation. The rest of the tumors regressed markedly and have been well controlled during the 28-month postoper-ative period, to date.
