Abstract
We present a case of metachronous malignant lymphoma arising in the ileum and stomach in that order. A 61-year-old man exhibiting intestinal obstruction underwent an ileocecal resection for a tumor in the terminal ileum in February 1990. He was pathologically diagnosed as having a malignant lymphoma. In September 1995, he was admitted again to the hospital because of epigastralgia. Gastrointestinal endoscopy and biopsy showed a malignant lymphoma of the stomach. A distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection was carried out. Histological diagnoses of both surgical specimens were non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, diffuse, large cell, and B cell type. There has been no sign of recurrence for 19 months after the distal gastrectomy. Only few cases of double malignant lymphoma of the intestine and stomach have been reported in the literature. Furthermore, such double malignant lymphoma arised metachronously in the ileum and stomach in this order is extremely rare as far as we could review.
