We report a case of volvulus of the sigmoid colon associated with infantile psychosomatic disorder. A 25-year-old man admitted for abdominal pain and vomiting was found to have colon gas dilatation on abdominal plain radiography, the same as 1 month before, and was diagnosed with volvulus of the sigmoid colon. Colon contents were suctioned and the colon decompressed by colonoscopy, ameliorating abdominal pain, but pain recurred, necessitating time. Therefore sigmoidectomy was performed. Laparotomy showed sigmoid colon dilatation and that part of the descending colon and ascending colon were not fixed to the retroperitoneum. Pathological study of the resected sigmoid colon showed no apparent neural ganglion cells.
