Abstract
The patient was a 64-year-old woman who visited Saiseikai Central Hospital with the chief complaints of abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal CT scanning revealed a tumor with diameter of about 3cm in the second part of the duodenum. By upper gastrointestinal tract imaging, circumferential constriction was revealed at the same location. In addition, endoscopy showed circumferential constriction at the same site and the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma was made by subsequent biopsy. From these findings, a diagnosis of duodenal cancer was made and surgery was performed. Because the tumor had invaded the transverse colon, pancreatoduodenectomy and right hemicolectomy were performed. On macroscopic observation, the tumor was 4cm in diameter and corresponded to type 3. There was little ulceration and marked expansion was seen in the deep areas. Histopathological examination gave a diagnosis of poorly-differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma. Duodenal cancer is relatively rare disease and reports of adenosquamous carcinoma are very uncommon.
