Abstract
In the present paper, a study on a family with combined deficiency of factor VIII and factor XII is reported.
The propsitus is a 38 years old man. He was admitted to the hospital due to the massive bleeding from gum following dental operation. The hematological examinations showed no abnormalities of red and white blood cell count, peripheral blood picture and platelet count. Prothrombin time and thrombotest were normal. While whole blood clotting time with glass and siliconed glass tubes, partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin consumption test and clot retraction test revealed abnormal values. Contact activity of patient plasma was less than that of normal plasma. In a series of determinations of miscellaneous blood coagulation factors, activity of factor VIII and factor XII were found to be 6.0 and 30-54%, respectively.
Moreover, the familial study of blood coagulation functions was performed. As for the activity of vactor VIII, the values of propositus's mother, his elder and younger brother and his only son were 25, 6.8, 4.6-5.0 and 70-80%. values of factor XII of these subjects were 32, 34, 49-56 and 26-48%, respectively.
