Abstract
This research is to analyze actual conditions of park management in the Hachimantai sub-area, Towada-Hachimantai National Park by using the ROS ; furthermore, a better visitor management for this area should be proposed from the viewpoint of diverse recreation opportunities. Discontinuous inconsistency and multi-layered inconsistency were frequently observed at a special protection zone adjacent to Mt. Hachimantai and Hachiman-numa. Inconsistency tended to occur along footpaths where recreational facilities were distributed in a patchy fashion, or those where maintenance of recreational facilities were improperly conducted. Constructions of mountain roads such as the Aspite Line may be a remote cause of inconsistency. Same issues could be observed at other nature parks where mountain roads run, and the methods used in this research should be applicable to these parks.
