ANALYSIS OF NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ON THE FLOOD DISASTER AT HIDAKA DISTRICT ON AUGUST, 2003

Abstract

The mass media are roughly classified into television and radio as immediacy type media and news paper as report type media. Although we can easily obtain various intelligence from report type media, the intelligence possibly contains the factors of some misunderstandings. If ordinary citizen has the mis-understanding about flooding, citizen response might decrease for the intelligence that were cause during the flooding. Consequently, the accuracy of intelligence from the report type media is very importance as well as immediacy type media. In this paper, newspaper article on the flood disaster at Hidaka district on August 2003 were analyzed, its characteristics and accuracy were showed. Though it is important intelligence about the flood, there were some intelligence that was not reported properly. We pointed out that in order to reduce the misunderstanding among ordinary citizens, review and comments should be reevaluated reflecting in the report from the pundits.
