Abstract

The proper management of river bed variation and bed materials is important for conducting the flood control and maintaining environment of the river. It becomes further important on the investigation of adaptation measures of the flood control due to the global climate change in the future. The present bed variation analysis is performed under the assumption that the river bed height measured after the large flood is almost the same as river bed heights occurring during the flood.

The bed variation analysis using unlikely bed height data brings many problems in the practical management of rivers. The present paper mainly focuses on bed variation analysis and bed material size distribution to discuss what the present issues in the sediment transport are and how the issues be solved from engineering point of views.
