Abstract

This report shows the results of the field investigation of the damages of the levees of Yoneshiro River and Kitakami River due to the heavy rainfall in September 16-18, 2007, and the study on the evaluation method of levee’s stability in accordance with the result of the field investigation.

From the field investigation, we found out the many damages, such as water leakage and slope sliding in levees, and the evidences of sand boil were observed at some points of the water leakage. Some of the results of inspection of river levees and the simulation of the seepage flow in the levee with numerical analysis at this flood suggest there are some problems in the evaluation method of levee’s stability. And they also indicate the significance of the field investigation, such as soil exploration and site reconnaissance.
