Abstract

A sluice pipe, which is supported by piles, across river levees have a possibility to grow a loosening around the pipe by the settlement of the levees.

This research conducts the investigation of the loosening around sluice pipes at three rivers in Japan. Laboratory experiments are also carried out to examine the influence of sluice pipes and the loosening to the seepage level in the levees.

The tendency of loosening patterns is obtained by the investigation. The results of experiment show that the existence of sluice pipes raises the seepage level, and the level becomes higher in the presence of the loosening.
