Abstract

The revetment works are made to protect against bank erosion. However, it also causes bed scouring along revetments. One of the authors has developed a natural bank protection works with large stones based on field experiments in the Jyoganji river. But it is difficult to measure detailed velocity distributions, and hence to know actual conditions of local flows attacking on revetments, anemometers which measure a single point like an electromagnetic current meter require a lot of works for getting entire velocity distributions. And it is difficult to measure velocity at deep water depth due to hydrodynamic forces by currents. Therefore, we develop a new method for measuring the local flow applying acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) which can obtain vertical velocity distributions at the flow above the water surface. In this paper, reliability of this method is evaluated for local flow fields attacking on revetments in the Jyoganji river filed experiment.
