Abstract

A series of model experiments was conducted to observe the surface displacement of the foundation ground in accordance with the progress of piping. The experiment cases was fixed by the difference in the soil layer structure of foundation ground. There was a tendency that the local displacement was observed as piping progressed when the thickness of the surface layers of the foundation ground was thin. However, in the case which used clay as the surface layer, the displacement was observed in a wider range. From these results, there is a possibility that it has a possibility to extract a relative weak section from piping by monitoring the surface layer displacement.
