Abstract

In recent years, the serious flood disasters with human damage have frequently occurred in small or medium size rivers in Japan due to failure of evacuation. In order to prevent and reduce flood damage by ensuring smooth and prompt evacuation, it is required to provide flood risk information on the river and share the information in the society. On the other hand, in those rivers managed by prefectures, cross sectional data of rivers are not sufficiently acquired, and then there are places where flood risk information is not provided. This paper shows simple method for assessing flood risk with laser profiler data in small or medium size rivers in mountainous areas that have challenges in providing flood risk information.
