Abstract

Tokai Disaster due to heavy rain fall in 2000 has brought us various research topics we have to tackle and resolve urgently. One of these topics is the hydraulics for breaching process of flood levee. We have a kind of criterion for the safety of levee which is employed for designing levees. The levees should not be broken in the flood control plan, but on the way of the river improvement, we have to be ready and reduce the disaster by flood fighting and emergency evacuation. Recently, making a hazard map for flood is recommended, but if we requires the map truly available for evacuation, we should know the process of breach of the levee when the flood level exceeds the criterion of the safety. In this paper, the 2D numerical simulation for flow and the model for deformation of the levee and the protected ground by it. It clarifies the temporal change of levee deformation and water volume of inundation, and such information must be helpful for flood fighting and evacuation guidance.
