Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a questionnaire survey on school safety management to 271
high schools and integrated junior and senior high schools in Japan, in order to clarify their present situa-
tion and implementation. Specifically, the following contents were put into the survey.
・Seismic reinforcement of school buildings, check and repair, and furniture and equipment fixing situa-
tion.
・Status of securing evacuation sites and evacuation routes at each school in the event of a disaster ・Present status of stockpiles and storage location of each school
A questionnaire survey was conducted on the above contents, and cross tabulation was performed with the disasters assumed by each school. The results were
1) It became clear that about half of the schools surveyed did not sufficiently fix bookshelves and copying machines.
2) Approximately 95% of all schools have secured one or more evacuation routes, and 98.5% of schools assuming tsunami damage by Nankai Trough Giga-quake have secured one or more evacuation routes It was also revealed that about the half schools among them have only one evacuation route.
3) Regarding stockpiling, it was revealed that 67% of schools have prepared stockpile. By the cross tabu- lation with the assumed disasters, it became clear that among the schools that assumed the occurrence of inland earthquakes, 39.5% of them “has no stockpile at all”. It was also suggested that many schools store their stockpiles on the first floor, and if they are flooded, these stockpiles may become unusable.
