Abstract
This study aims to clarify the structural differences between factors contributing to scoring and conceded points in rugby union. Using game statistics from the Rugby World Cup (RWC2023), multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that influence team performance in both Attack and defence. The result showed that in the scoring model, Metres Carried and Lineout Success positively affected points scored, while Penalties Conceded and Carries had negative effects. In the conceded model, Missed Tackles increased points conceded, while Kicks in Play and Lineout Success helped reduce them. Notably, Lineout Success was a significant factor in both models, suggesting that set-piece success contributes not only to increasing scoring opportunities but also to reducing conceded points. These findings indicate that scoring and conceding are governed by partially different factors, emphasizing the importance of optimizing attack and defensive strategies separately. This distinction is crucial for enhancing the tactical specialization and coaching strategies of modern rugby.
