Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to measure the extent to which home helpers cooperate with visiting nurses.

Methods : A questionnaire survey was conducted of 503 home helpers and 286 valid responses (57%) were analyzed. Based on the former study, a conceptual framework was defined as provision and collection of information, and based on the research on information exchange between the two parties, constructs were defined as provision of information about elimination and medication, and collection of information from nurses. A factor analysis was performed on 16 items, which were created based on an interview survey. Home helpers’ performance, improvement of practical skills, and community cooperation scales were used as external criteria of the scale.

Results : Exploratory factor analysis identified three factors and six items. Confirmatory factor analysis for fitness of conceptualized hypothetical model indicated a good fit of the scale and a significant relation with the external criteria, suggesting a certain validity. The coefficient alpha was .874.

Discussion : The practicability of the scale to measure provision and collection of information, which underlie cooperation of home helpers with visiting nurses, was suggested.
