Abstract

Fault tree analysls has been applied to probabilistic risk assessment for large-sca]e system~ includiug chemical proeessing plants and nuclear power station. The synthesis of fault trees is an extremely complex and time consuming process in the stage of analysis. The camp~nion papers of this series have presented an algorithm using blockdiagram with various failure modes, In this paper, this algdl,ithm is illustrated for the nitric acid cooler system and the chemical reactor safety system. The algorithm is shown to be stlccesslully applied to the synthesis of fault trees for complicated systems.
