Abstract

In order to evaluate the vapor explosion induced at the direct contact of water with molten salts, a systematic experiment of measuring evaporation characteristics of a water droplet dropped on to the free sufface of various melts is conducted for a wide range of temperature difference between both liquids, The experiments show that the droplets evaporate instantaneously on several melts, and the modes of instantaneous boiling, the condition and the rate of occurance of instantaneous boiling are measured. The results of present experiment are compared with those of vapor explosion tests carried out for same kinds of melts, It is suggesred that the evapolation characteristics of instantaneous boiling is compatible to evaluate the characteristics of vapor explosion for molten salt-water system.
