Abstract

For achievement of safer work, it is fundamentally important that risks should be informed to the operators correctly and common risk perception should be held between operators, staffs and machine designers. From this viewpoint, the present study concerns safety of machine operation in the field of manufacturing. Based on questionnaire survey, it is analyzed how the operators, staffs and machine designers perceive and communicate risks of the machinery. Then, the followings are obtained:The risks in machine operation are perceived smaller by senior operators, and the staffs estimate the risks smaller than the operators. The operators and the staffs in small and medium-sized enterprises tend to think that their machines are not always safe for operation. In addition, risk information from machine ―makers is not necessarily available. Those analyses of the issues result in the authors’proposal to establish some schemes for improvement.
