A simple and easy―to―operate apparatus for measuring electric ignition energies for low―volatile flammable liquid was devel oped. With the apparatus, the ignition properties of three kinds of popular dry―cleaning solvents ―White N―10, Isopar L, and Silicon plus α as trademarked ―were measured under various conditions. The minimum ignition energies (MIE) of their vapors mixed with air at 150 ℃ were 0.21~0.36 mJ, obtained at vapor concentrations somewhat higher than the stoichiometric ones. The higher the temperature was, the smaller the MIEs became. The oxygen concentrations at which no ignition occurrd were 11~12 %. Every substance exploded even at 10 kPa. Silicon plus α, which had Si and O in its molecular structure, had the smallest MIE and the widest explosion limit even though its flash point was the highest. The formation of nongaseous substances due to explosion was also observed and discussed.
