Abstract
This paper deals with the dynamic behavior of a mass or a structure on an elastic homogeneous stratum subject to earthquake motion. The procedure employed in this paper begins with the establishment of a finite number of masses and springs which represent a stratum from the standpoint of soilstructure interaction. An effective lateral extent of soil mass is determined in order to define the system. Comparison with the experimental results taken from previous paper (R. N. Arnold, 1955) shows good agreement with the computed results. Natural periods of buildings on a stratum are investigated in connection with properties of soil.
