Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to clarify the content of nursing practice and
thoughts on fertility support for female cancer survivors.
Method: A mail-in anonymous self-administered questionnaire was used to analyze the
nursing practices related to fertility support for female cancer survivors and the free
description of the survivors’ thoughts at that time.
Results: In terms of the fertility support for female cancer survivors, nurses provided
decision-making support by providing information on fertility preservation therapy,
confirmed the desire to have a baby in cooperation with doctors, referred them to
reproductive medicine facilities, and provided psychological support. At that time, they
had high hopes for fertility preservation, were concerned about the difficulties
associated with self-determination, recognized the importance of family support and
felt the challenges of fertility support.
Conclusions: In order to improve the practical skills of nurses, it is important to build a
decision-making support system for fertility preservation and to provide a professional
team for cancer care and reproductive medicine that transcends institutions.
