Abstract

Characteristics of a Vector Radiant Thermometer (VRT meter) which is used for measuring a dirction and strength of thermal radiation is described. A theory of the VRT meter is based on heat balance at each face of a cube.
A measurement of heat thransfer using the VRT meter was carrid out in a wind tunnel. The convective heat transfer coefficient at each face of the VRT meter were obtained.
Comparison was made between value from the VRT meter, and a net radiometer and other instruments, error of the VRT meter was within 6 percent.
It was proved that the VRT meter can be used satisfactorily for measuring the thermal radiation environment in livestock buildings.
