Abstract
Crude streptolysin O (SLO) prepared from SS 265 (group A, type 3) was separated into 22 hemolytic components in pH range 4.8-8.0 by using of thin layer agarose gel isoelectric focusing overlaid with thin layer erythrocyte agar plate. Groups A, C and G streptococci could be classified into three types by the major pI values of the SLO; They are acidic type (major form, pI 6.0), neutral type (major form, pI 7.5) and wide type (major form, pI 6.0 and 7.5) respectively. The pI values of SLO were not related to groups and types of group A streptococci. It suggested that the distribution of pIs in crude SLO was different even in the sample which were produced from a single strain of Streptococcus pyogenes under the similar condition.
