Abstract

As one of the fundamental experiments on the safe compound perfumes for cosmetics, the test was carried out by means of closed patch test to examin the primary irritation to the human skin of odorous materials often used in compound perfumes for cosmetics.
600 Japanese subjects were repeatedly employed to the test from September 1963 to December 1967, excluding summer seasons, which amounted to 4737 cases in total.
A base cream or 99% ethyl alcohol were used as media and the test was carried out in the concentration of 0.05-0.5%.
Patches were applied to the skin for 24 to 48 hours and the results were read 30 minutes ofter removal.
The results of their primary irritation to the skin were reported.
