Abstract
The action of an anchor type agitator, equipped with an emulsification kettle, to the emulsifying process of oil and water has been investigated by measuring the size of emulsion particles.
The relation, as shown by the following equation, has been obtained between rotation speed (R; rpm) of an agitator and volume-surface mean diameters (Dvs; micron) of emulsion particles, logDvs=-a⋅R+b where both a and b are constants for each emulsification kettle.
When emulsification kettles of a similar type are used for the emulsion preparation, the ratio of a in the above equation to the square root of the blade diameter (L; mm) of the agitator becomes nearly constant. The relation, a/√L=constant, enables us to estimate proper rotation speed of each agitator for performance of the same agitating effect at the scale up.
