Abstract

This paper presents the scenario that enables to apply the method for production planning and scheduling to various business solutions toward production innovation in common. The fundamental way of thinking consists of the followings: (1) Modularization of production management technology .i.e. breakaway from the conventional functional explosion of planning; (2) Unification of various heterogeneous decision features and of various decision operations in planning .i.e. formulation of the whole of the problem into a unified model with objective function and constraints by use of 0-1 variables denoting the states of the ternary relations of item to be processed, machine to be used, and timeslot of processing; (3) Global optimization .i.e. to solve the unified optimization model in terms of 0-1 variables using the decomposition coordination method; (4) Utilization of general versatility of the model for not only planning and scheduling but also plant simulation, management simulation, enterprise diagnosis, and so on. The paper also clarifies that global optimization by unified model with high resolution has various complementarities effects among system elements.
