Abstract

Efforts aimed at addressing diversified needs and at improving the efficiency of production through the use of information and communication technology have intensified in recent years. There have been calls for mechanisms in the field of manufacturing to ensure the effective transference of skills as well as to improve productivity through the use of wearable devices. Initiatives to introduce wearable technology and to verify its application are increasing. The aim of this paper was to examine the effects of the use of a variety of wearable devices, known as smart glasses, on the performance of intellectual tasks. The time required for the operation of the glasses and the variations in the time taken to use the technology were verified through the Achievement Method, which is an appropriate evaluation method to measure work proficiency. The results of this study revealed that the use of smart glasses can promote performance in intellectual work in a stable manner and with minimal variations in operation time regardless of the number of working days and despite differences between workers. Further, smart glasses were found to shorten the time required in the beginning phase of a given job. The glasses are thus deemed to be an effective tool in workplaces where product lines are frequently altered or in companies that face high worker attrition that results in a relatively large number of new workers.
