Abstract
In general, Co(II) is stable in a water solution and it is partly oxidized to Co(III) in oxide. Many complex molecules include Co(III) are well known. Properties of cobalt oxide (Co3O4) is similar to that of iron oxide. The sulfated iron oxide was known as one of the solid superacids. It was expected that acidity of cobalt oxide could be enhanced by sulfation. A solid acid of sulfated cobalt oxide was prepared by sulfation of hydrated cobalt oxide with ammonium sulfate or cobalt sulfate, and calcined at 1073 K
