Abstract

A method of estimating body measurements from body shape data, or coordinate values of control points, of a three-dimensional (3D) body shape model is proposed. 3D measurements of the trunks and 26 body measurements of 548 Japanese women are utilized. Firstly, applying the body shape model to the 3D measurements generates their control points. Then, equations to estimate the body measurements with the linear combination of the coordinate values of the control points are derived using 100 of the 548 data sets. The combinations of the shape data to be used in the equations are determined by a genetic algorithm. Finally, the equations can estimate 21 of the body measurements of the remaining 448 subjects within the average error of 2.87 %.
