Abstract

This study demonstrated the clothing behavior in early childhood from two aspects, i.e., one is young children's interest in clothing and the other is parents' offering of clothing assistance. Another purpose of this study was to examine the influence of various factors on the clothing behavior in early childhood. These analyses of the factors influencing these aspects included 501 mothers of young children. As a result, there was the relationship between young children's interest in clothing and the mothers' offering of clothing assistance, in many aspects. It was suggested that the young children's interest in clothing was greatly influenced by their gender: it was often different in boys and girls. We surmised that the young children's interest in clothing was influenced by the mothers' gender roles and the child-rearing, as well as by the mothers' offering of clothing assistance. Therefore, we thought that in order to understand the young children's interest in clothing, it would be required to view the mothers' thinking from various aspects.
