Abstract
Styrene grafted silk fabrics were dyed with direct, acid, metal complex, reactive, disperse dyes. The effect of styrene grafting on the color fastnesses, and the color differences between silk and styrene grafted silk fabrics were examined.
The results obtained in this study are as follows
1) The color fastness to wet rubbing, water, washing and perspiration were slightly improved by the styrene grafting.
2) The fastness to dry rubbing was slightly lowered by the styrene grafting except the fabrics dyed with disperse dyes.
3) The dry cleaning fastness of disperse dyes considered to be affinitive to the grafted polymers was insufficient.
4) The styrene grafting seemed to have no effect on the color fastness to the light.
5) The color difference between silk and styrene grafted silk fabrics was remarkable. The hue, however, was hardly changed by grafting. The remarkable color difference might be caused by the differences in the lightness and chroma.
