Abstract
The purpose of this study is to search the possibility of sewing and the sewing ability of a home sewing machine equipped with positive feeding mechanism of the needle thread and also to develop some devices for this purpose.
The sewing ability has been analyzed by observing whether the proper seams were made and by measuring and analyzing the needle thread tension during sewing operation and the ratio of the needle thread length to the bobbin thread length per seam.
At the first stage of experiment, a straight sewing was done by using one kind of cloth at three stages of the sewing speed of arm shaft of 25 spm, 50 spm and 100 spm, with the angle of feeding lever of needle thread changed from 0°to 90°.
Furthermore, the straight sewing were repeatedly done by using three kinds of cloths whose thickness were different at the sewing speeds of arm shaft of 500 spm and 1000 spm. A pulse motor and a pulley were used for the positive feeding of needle thread
In conclusion, the sewing by the positive feeding of needle thread is possible and there is no problem in the sewing ability of a home sewing machine. It seems that this method is useful for the sewing of thin cloth, soft cloth and smooth cloth.
