Abstract
The images received from the striped patterns with two different colors were analysed by the factor analysis. Striped patterns were made by using colored papers showing 132 kinds of stripes (horizontal and vertical) each of which had different form, width, and color.
The image factors of those 132 kinds of striped patterns are represented by three factors, i.e. lightness, clearness, and simplicity.
The following results were clarified. As to the factor of lightness, black and white patterns are related to the size of white color. Pure and achromatic color combination patterns are related to the value of pure and achromatic color. As to clearness, black and white patterns are related to the form and width of stripe and the size of black color. Pure and achromatic color combination patterns are related to the width of stripe and the value of achromatic color. As to simplicity, black and white patterns are related to the size of white color and the width of stripe. Pure and achromatic color combination patterns are related to the value of achromatic color. Concerning lightness and simplicity, both in black and white patterns and in pure and achromatic color combination patterns, the direction of stripes tends to be stronger in horizontal rather than in vertical.
