Abstract

Compressive properties, which can be related to the soft feeling of the cosmetic sponge, were measured. For the measurement of compressive properties, a disk and a ball type indenters (10, 16 and 22mm in diameter) were used and the results were compared each other. The ball type test with the ball type indenter was used for the measurements of both wet and dry sponges. For disk type indenters, a wet sponge was fixed to the disk during the removal of the compressive force. For ball type indenters, the Hertz's elastic theory could be applied to these sponges and the Young's modulus was obtained. The effect of a ball diameter on the Young's modulus was marginal. In the case of a disk type indenter, the Young's modulus was influenced by the disk diameter and the indentation. For the evaluation of the compressive hysteresis, the compressive resilience was used.
