Abstract

In this paper, samples of 15 different materials such as fabrics, paper and films, and four rubber sheets in different thickness were used.
For each sample, a hanging length L, which demonstrated that the Hamburger's drape coefficient was constant, was sought by maintaining the ratio between the hanging length and the disc radius at 1 : 1.
We examined whether the similarity rule of :
L/L'=3√EI/W/3√EI'/W'
L : bending length (cm)
EI : bending rigidity (g. cm)
W : weight (g /cm2)
might be applied when Hamburger's drape coefficients of those samples were constant. The results of the test were as follows ;
1. The similarity rule was not established for the 15 samples of different materials.
2. The similarity rule was established for the four types of rubber sheets. It was also found that the number of nodes on the rubber sheets became equal.
3. From those tests it was concluded that the similarity rule can be established for the same marterial and that the presence of an equal number of nodes was related to the establishment of the similarity rule.
