Abstract

The extraction behavior of molybdenum(VI) (Mo(VI)) with 5-octyloxymethyl-8-quinolinol (HO8Q) and 5-octyloxymethyl-7-bromo-8-quinolinol (HBrO8Q) from strongly acidic solutions was investigated. Mo(VI) was quantitatively extracted with 1.0 x 10-3 M HBrO8Q from 7 M HNO3 aqueous solution into chloroform. The extractability of HBrO8Q for Mo(VI) was higher than that of HO8Q. It was demonstrated that the introduction of the bromo-group at the 7-position of HO8Q was very effective in enhancing the extractability for Mo(VI) from strong acid solutions. The selective extraction of Mo(VI) from nitric acid solution containing various metal ions was accomplished by the proposed method.
