Abstract

This paper examines the process of support utilization by young people who have experienced unemployment and their situation after achieving employment, from the perspective of changes of the process of coping with “difficulties in living.” In the process of using support, the “difficulties in living” such as a sense of inferiority and a preoccupation with the norm of self-responsibility were alleviated, and the subjects of the study moved toward the achievement of employment. This process can be understood as a practice that incorporates both the “logic of employment independence” and the “logic of the place of support”. On the other hand, after achieving employment, the “logic of employment independence” is foregrounded and the “logic of the place of support” is backgrounded, and the “difficulties in living” that had been alleviated through the use of support are seen to be re-approached. Although previous studies have shown that “difficulties in living” are alleviated in the supportive environment, the fact that people re-approach “difficulties in living” after achieving employment has not been sufficiently examined, and the findings of this study may have significance.
