Abstract
Vertical air temperature gradient is one of the main causes of discomfort encountered in heated rooms. This paper introduces an equation for estimating the air temperature gradient in a room heated with convectors. The equation was obtained by applying the characteristics of plume rising above the convectors. The air temperature gradient is expressed as second power of effective height of plume from its source to the ceiling. We tested the equation by conducting a series of experiments on a small model room heated with a model convector, and a field survey. The equation has proven as a good estimation by comparing with the results obtained through experiments.
