Abstract

In this study, to investigate the applicability of slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water for deodorization , methanethiol (CH3SH) and trimethylamine ((CH3)3N) removal carried out using slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water. First, in order to investigate the effect of slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water on a small scale, a gas removal experiment using a washing bottle was conducted. By comparing the results with the cases of hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and sodium hypochlorite, slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water was confirmed to be most effective. Next, to examine the applicability of slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water on a real scale, a deodorizing system was constructed using a slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water production device and a packed bed scrubber with an air volume of 3 m3/min. One-pass gas removal efficiencies of 80% for CH3SH and 90% for (CH3)3N were obtained. Thus, a pplicability of slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water for deodorization was confirmed.
