Abstract
The smoke extinguishing phenomena in a rectangular cross-sectional channel with a discharging wire are studied to ascertain the performance of this method in a passage or a tunnel at the scene of a fire. Experimental results show that a discharging wire can extinguish smoke particles in a channel within a few minutes. The fundamental characteristics of this method agree approximately with the theoretical results calculated on the assumption of a complete mixing condition.
