We studied the formation of radicular granulomas induced by the stimulating factors, LPS, BSA, and KLH-coupled latex beads and plain latex beads. Each factor was either introduced into the mandibular first molar canals or injected into artificial dorsal air pouches in the rats. Periapical lesions and dorsal specimens were histopathologically and immunohistochemically examined. The cells harvested from the exudates in the air-pouches were smeared on glass slides. LPS induced an extensive granuloma pouch. Granulomatous lesions were induced in the periapical regions by KLH-coupled and plain latex beads. These results indicate the possibility of participation of insoluble bacterial factors in periapical granuloma formation.
