Abstract

We did SEM studies of sequential changes in microvasculature during osseous healing after apicoectomy utilizing bone-vascular microcorrosion casts. After one week, newly-formed sinusoidal capillaries sprouted inside the lingual cortical bone of the mandible. At two weeks, primary spongy trabeculae were observed around the ectomized root wound orifice and the inferior alveolar canal. At four weeks, a bone trabecular bridge was formed beneath the ectomized root. By 8 to 12 weeks, the trabeculae had matured and filled the wound to the level of the orifice with a well-developed capillary plexus beneath the ectomized root.
