Nanotechnology is becoming an even more significant driver of all aspects of materials science and its application to industrial technologies. The purpose of this article is to give a brief account of the history and global science and technology policy of nanotechnology, and to present the attractive values and future possibilities of nanotechnology in relation to nano-materials with relevance to color phenomena. The role of nanotechnology is not only to contribute to the development of industrial society and the betterment of medical technologies, but also to respond to novel issues of food safety and alternative energy sources that entail solutions based on the development of science and technology.
