Pigment in paint and printing ink is dispersed uniformly in resin and solvent (vehicle). Commercialized dry powder pigment does not give good dispersion because of strong pigment particle aggregates when it is only stirred in vehicle. Required color strength, gloss and hiding power in paint and printing ink are satisfied by dispersing their aggregates.
Aggregates and dispersion stability are the matter of surface chemistry, and pigment manufactures are trying to solve those problems. I commentate on dispersion of pigment, which is needed in all of application used pigment, focusing particle as pigment character in the view point of pigment manufacture.
