Tactile Feels and Surface Properties of Biological Materials

Abstract

Many industrial products such as clothes, furniture, and car interiors are prepared from biological materials with attractive tactile texture. In this paper, the tactile texture was evaluated for seven materials such as pine wood and rabbit fur. When subjects touched biological materials, they perceived favorable feels: “Suki” and “Kaiteki”. These feels were governed by surface structure of these materials.
