Silicon-containing Chelates with ligand of 2, 2′-dihydroxy azo compounds were synthesized, and their properties were investigated. The 1 : 2 silicon chelates with no charge were synthesized by the reaction of silicon tetrachloride with disodium salts of 2, 2′-dihydroxy azo compounds. The chelates were reddish violet or blue powders insoluble or sparingly soluble in water and organic solvents. The coloring test for polystyrene revealed that these chelates gave a colored plastics of red with a good transparency through an excellent dispersion and showed a high thermal stability and lightfastness as was the same on a test with a sample pastel colored by titanium dioxide. The effect of the ligand on thermal stability and lightfastness of these chelates was also investigated by means of thermal analysis and mass spectrometry.
