Abstract

Surface characters of phthalocyanine blue pigments treated with mixtures of acidic and basic phthalo-cyanine derivatives has been studied on the points of alkyd resin adsorptions. Resin adsorption in-creased more on the surface of base-treated pigment rather than that of acid-treated pigment in all kinds of alkyd resin solutions. However, the adosrption curves against the acidic and basic ratio on the pigment surface were quite different in each alkyd resin solution. Molecular weight of adsorbed resin on the surface of the treated pigments was also studied by gel permeation chromatography. The study made clear that molecular weight of adsorbed resin was depending on the surface character and resin properties.
